Piyush Goyal Highlights Mumbai’s Infrastructure Growth, Pledges Central Support

On February 26, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal underlined how important new infrastructure initiatives are to reducing traffic and enhancing connectivity in Mumbai.

Speaking at an event alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Goyal distributed keys to 15 self-redeveloped housing societies in North Mumbai on 25 February. Assuring full support from the Central Government, he reiterated his commitment to Maharashtra’s urban redevelopment and infrastructure initiatives.

Goyal conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message and reiterated the government’s commitment to provide the homeless and those living in temporary homes in their community access to permanent housing. He emphasised that the initiative’s long-term objective is to provide families and future generations with stable homes.

Discussing North Mumbai’s ongoing development, Goyal noted the region’s significant infrastructure advancements. He praised CM Fadnavis for spearheading major projects such as the extension of the Coastal Road (Worli-Bandra) to Versova and the proposed coastal road linking the new airport via the Atal Sethu. These projects, he stressed, would be instrumental in reducing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity across Mumbai.

Goyal also praised the Maharashtra government’s initiative in addressing important public concerns. He emphasised the extensive use of cement-concrete roads as a means of preventing road damage during the monsoon season. He also praised the state’s efforts to manage untreated sewage, noting that more than Rs 26,000 crore had been set aside to guarantee adequate treatment before water was discharged into the ocean.

These changes will strengthen the government’s aim for a well-planned urban future in Mumbai by bringing better living conditions, streamlined traffic, and improved infrastructure.
