In the fiscal year 2025–2026, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has unveiled a budget of Rs 3,873.86 crore, emphasising the development of infrastructure and effective management. Notably, chief accounts and finance officer Mangesh Gawde assured municipal commissioner Mangesh Chitale that there will be no tax increases in the budget.
Municipal commissioner Chitale described the budget as “development-oriented,” emphasising income growth, improved healthcare, modern educational techniques, environmental conservation, and public participation to ensure a cleaner Panvel.
The civic organisation intends to build a water treatment plant at Dehrang Dam and install additional pipes to address Navi Mumbai’s water scarcity, boosting the city’s water supply from 15 million litres per day (MLD) to 25–30 MLD. To extract water from the dam, funds have also been set aside for a pipeline to the Balganga project, subject to government clearance.
A significant allocation of Rs 221 crore has been set aside for enhancing the solid waste management system. Mechanised sweeping machines will be deployed on major roads in four wards, and two additional garbage transfer stations will be built, supplementing the two already under construction. A plant for processing construction remains will also be introduced through a public-private partnership.
Enhancements to healthcare are a top financial goal. For Rs 449 crore, a fully furnished 450-bed hospital will be constructed in Kalamboli, coupled with a “Hirkani Mata and Child Care Centre” for Rs 17.50 crore. Furthermore, a 50-bed hospital for infectious diseases in Kalamboli has been allocated Rs 10 crore.
Major infrastructure initiatives include the construction of Swarajya, a new administrative building costing Rs 158 crore, as well as a mayor’s residence and new ward offices for Rs 38 crore. Road development remains a focus, with Rs 437 crore allocated for concretisation and asphalting, while Rs 57 crore will be invested in sports ground development.
Additionally, Rs 14 crore is allocated in the budget for a public library and auditorium in Kharghar. Rs 83 crore will be used to improve educational facilities, student skill development, and teacher wages, while Rs 34 crore will be used to build new civic schools. A total of Rs 10.72 crore would be spent on repairs for Raigad Zilla Parishad schools under PMC authority.
The budget’s strategic allocations are intended to improve Panvel’s general development, municipal amenities, and infrastructure, hence improving the quality of life for its citisens.
