Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis evaluated a number of infrastructure and other development projects totalling Rs. 1.41 lakh crores, as well as a proposed Rs. 25,000 crore project carried out by the Municipal Corporation, at a review meeting on Tuesday at Vidhan Bhavan. In order to make the drain cleaning process more effective and timely, he also gave the BMC instructions to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
The BMC is working on a number of important infrastructure projects, such as the construction of major bridges like the Gokhale, Vikhroli, Carnac, Sion, Belasis, Mahalaxmi, and Madh-Worli bridges, the concretisation of 700 kilometres of roads, and the Mumbai Coastal Road Project Phase 2 (Versova-Dahisar-Bhayandar). The revitalisation of the Dahisar, Poisar, and Oshiwara rivers as well as the cleaning of the Mithi River are examples of water supply initiatives.
In addition, the BMC is building the Versova and Mithi River sewage tunnels and renovating seven sewage treatment plants. At Mankhurd and Octroi Naka (Dahisar West), commercial hubs are being constructed. In addition, new hospital building is in progress, as is the renovation of Sion KEM, Sion, and Nair hospitals.
The review also examined projects totalling around Rs. 25,000 crore that have not yet started construction, such as the Gargai Water Supply Project, the Mithi River Package 5, the Desalination Project, the Panjarapol Water Purification Project, the Mankhurd Transport Hub, the expansion of Byculla Zoo, the Mulund Bird Sanctuary, the Deonar Bioremediation, the Deonar Abattoir Modernisation, and the Mithi River Package 5. Fadnavis instructed that a parking area with space for 1,200 vehicles be built near Haji Ali along the coastal road. “It is important to expedite and finish the ongoing tasks on schedule. Additionally, Fadnavis stated that the proposed projects’ tendering process must be finished in a month”, Fadnavis stated.
Eknath Shinde, the deputy chief minister, underlined the need to finish the ongoing work quickly so that residents won’t experience any inconveniences during the rainy season. BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department Rajesh Kumar, and Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department Aseem Gupta were among the authorities present at the meeting.
