Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stated that the new industrial policy of Maharashtra will attract 20 lakh crore in investments and create 50 lakh jobs as he presented the Mahayuti government’s budget for the 2025–2026 fiscal year on Monday, March 10, 2025.
The state’s pre-budget Economic Survey, presented to the assembly on Friday (March 7, 2025), projects that Maharashtra’s economy would expand at a rate of 7.3% in the fiscal year 2024-25, exceeding the 6.5% national growth forecast. The projected per capita income for 2024–2025 is Rs 3,09,340, which is a substantial increase from Rs 2,78,681 in the preceding fiscal year. But compared to Gujarat (Rs 2,97,722), Karnataka (Rs 3,32,926), and Tamil Nadu (Rs 3,15,220), Maharashtra has a lower per capita income.
Sanjay Raut, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), asserted on Saturday that there is financial chaos in Maharashtra and that the state is being crushed under the weight of debt.
The addition of new metro routes in Pune, Nagpur, and Mumbai
The Maharashtra government plans to increase metro connectivity in Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur. As he unveiled the State Budget for 2025–2026 on Monday, Ajit Pawar stated, “The government plans to launch 41.2 km of metro routes in Mumbai and 23.2 km in Pune, totalling 64.4 km in the coming days.”
“A total of 237.5 km of metro routes will be put into service over the next five years,” he continued. In the metropolitan districts of Mumbai, Nagpur, and Pune, there are currently 143.57 kilometres of metro routes in operation, serving roughly 10 lakh commuters every day.
The Tapi River Valley will see the implementation of an irrigation project of about ₹19,000 crore
Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, declared that the Tapi River Valley would see the implementation of an irrigation project valued at 19,300 crore. “The interlinking of rivers is essential for the State,” he stated.
Additionally, he stated that water from the Konkan would be redirected to areas of Marathwada that are vulnerable to drought.
The Palghar district of Maharashtra’s Vadhvan port is scheduled to open by 2030.
In addition, a new airport is planned as part of the Vadhvan Port, a deep seaport in Palghar district that is expected to begin operations by 2030.
Mumbai’s third airport will be this one. Mr. Pawar stated that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train station would be located at Vadhvan port.
The Samruddhi Highway project is almost 99% finished: Pawar
Maharashtra will build a 1,500-kilometer road network in the upcoming year.
