The new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will have a VVIP terminal only for movie stars, millionaire businesspeople, and powerful politicians. As part of NMIA’s future expansion plans, this facility is projected to be completed by 2030, with construction set to begin in Fiscal Year 2026.
Officials from the federal and state governments, including governors, chief ministers, and military personnel, will be served by this exclusive terminal. It will also serve as a general aviation terminal for celebrities and other notable people. An unidentified official hinted at a highly selective policy when he said that the eligibility requirements for using the terminal would be decided later.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) determined that NMIA was 90% complete on February 26. Significant progress has been made towards operational preparedness since the operator has already applied for the required permission.
According to sources, the NMIA is being built to relieve traffic at CSMIA, which only has one runway at the moment. A terminal that can accommodate 20 million passengers a year—9 million of whom will be local and 3 million of whom will be foreign—is part of the NMIA’s Phase 1. NMIA’s capacity will rise to 30 million passengers annually in its second phase, which is anticipated to be operational by the end of 2028. The VVIP terminal and a permanent air traffic control tower will be built as part of the third phase of development.
The construction of this unique VVIP terminal at NMIA is a strategic move to attract affluent tourists and ensure a hassle-free, seamless travel experience for privileged passengers. This action will probably position NMIA as a modern aviation hub and also emphasises India’s growing demand for first-rate airport infrastructure.
