Central Railway GM Inspects Igatpuri-CSMT Section, Reviews Key Projects

On March 23, Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager of Central Railway, carried out a thorough examination of the Mumbai Division’s Igatpuri-CSMT section. In order to increase passenger convenience and operational efficiency, the visit concentrated on important infrastructure projects, such as the remodelling of Kalyan Yard and the construction of the third and fourth lines between Kalyan and Kasara.

The Kalyan-Kasara third and fourth line project is being executed in phases, with completion targeted between 2026 and 2027. Once finished, separate corridors will be available for local, long-distance, and goods trains. At present, all trains share the same corridor, leading to delays, especially during peak hours. The new tracks will help resolve this congestion issue.

Meena visited Kalyan to assess the ongoing yard remodelling and segregation work, which is intended to improve the timeliness of suburban train services currently affected by yard congestion and alleviate bottlenecks.

The General Manager also inspected the Kalyan Railway Hospital and inaugurated the newly designed course content and renovated classroom at the Advanced Training Centre in Kalyan. Additionally, he visited Asangaon station, reviewing facilities such as the station booking office, the new RPF post, the railway staff colony, and the garden—all aimed at improving security, staff welfare, and passenger convenience.

Meena also examined the Ghat neighbourhood between Kasara and Igatpuri. He started a safety check at Igatpuri station earlier in the day, looking at the Water Treatment Plant, the Route Relay Interlocking cabin and the Rolling In/Rolling Out hut.

Further enhancing operational efficiency, Meena inaugurated the Combined Crew Lobby and released a booklet on “Signal Failure and Rectification” to improve railway reliability. He also distributed application-specific tablets to S&T supervisors.

He reinforced the railway’s dedication to improved services and infrastructure development by examining the food vendors, cleanliness, and passenger amenities at Igatpuri station during his visit.
