For the fiscal year 2025–2026, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) in Maharashtra’s Thane district has authorised a budget of Rs 988.72 crore, with a focus on gender inclusivity, environmental sustainability, and smart infrastructure. The budget was approved on Tuesday by UMC Commissioner Manisha Ahwale, who is also acting as the civic body’s administrator after the corporators’ five-year tenure ended. Speaking at a press conference following the approval, she emphasised that a modest water tax hike had been implemented as a component of a larger revenue-generating plan meant to preserve budgetary stability.
The civic administration has projected revenue of Rs 286.53 crore from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) grant, Rs 120.41 crore from property tax, and Rs 72.25 crore through water tax collections. The budget has been structured around a five-point agenda, focusing on smart infrastructure, digitalisation, revenue enhancement, environmental responsibility, and gender equality. A significant portion of the financial allocation includes Rs 50 crore for educational initiatives and Rs 225.34 crore for salaries and allowances.
Furthermore, the budget incorporates several major developmental projects, including the construction of a new administrative headquarters for UMC, official residences for both the mayor and commissioner, the establishment of a boat club, the development of a town hall, and an ambitious riverfront rejuvenation programme. These initiatives are designed to improve civic amenities while ensuring financial sustainability.
Ahwale emphasised that the administration remains committed to modernising public infrastructure, adopting digital governance for efficiency, and implementing sustainability measures. Environmental conservation remains a key focus, with targeted efforts to expand green spaces, reduce pollution, and promote sustainable urban development. The budget also prioritises gender inclusivity through the implementation of policies and allocation of resources to foster equality.
This financial strategy reflects UMC’s dedication to improving the quality of life for Ulhasnagar residents by enhancing public services and promoting long-term urban development. Officials have assured that the budget will be executed with transparency and accountability, aligning with the broader vision of transforming Ulhasnagar into a more liveable and progressive urban centre.
