Metro Green Line Trial Runs Scheduled For August, Say Sources

Train trials on a 10.5-km stretch of Mumbai Metro’s Green Lines 4 and 4A are scheduled to begin this August, according to sources. The trial section, which runs from Cadbury Junction to Gaimukh, includes ten stations: Majiwada, Kapurbawadi, Manpada, Tikuji-Ni-Wadi, Dongripada, Vijay Garden, Kasarvadavli, Gownipada, and the terminal point at Gaimukh.

Metro Line 4 spans 32.32 km, connecting Wadala to Kasarvadavli through an elevated corridor with 30 stations, serving Mumbai’s eastern suburbs. Line 4A is a 2.7-km extension from Kasarvadavli to Gaimukh and is nearing completion, adding two more stations to the network.

This development follows a string of recent milestones in Mumbai’s metro expansion. On 16 April 2025, trial runs commenced on the 5.5-km stretch between Diamond Garden and Mandale on Metro Line 2B. On 9 May, the Aqua Line 3’s underground segment between BKC and Worli was activated. Most recently, on 14 May, Phase 1 trial runs began for the Red Line 9, marking a crucial link between Mumbai and Thane. In this phase, four of the line’s eight stations—Dahisar to Kashigaon—will be functional.

Due to the delay in completing the Mogharpada car shed, a temporary “pit line” has been created beyond the terminal station. This pit line allows for cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of metro trains and will remain in use until the depot is operational.

An official stated that under Dr Sanjay Mukherjee’s leadership as Metropolitan Commissioner, the MMRDA has actively removed land and execution bottlenecks. “The focus is now on opening completed sections without waiting for full corridor completion,” the official said, adding that such strategic planning is helping bring stalled projects back on track.
