Gagrani Inspects Cement Road Works, Flags Urgent Need For Pumping Efficiency

The rainwater pumping system in low-lying areas should be more effective. The capacity of the pumping stations at Hindmata and Gandhi Market should be kept functioning more effectively. Care should be taken to ensure that the operation of the pumping stations is more efficient. Care should be taken to ensure that water does not accumulate in the Chunabhatti railway station area and that the suburban railway service on the Harbour Line is not disrupted, said Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani.

After the completion of the road concreting work, the officials should inspect and verify whether the barricades have been removed, whether the remaining construction materials and debris have been disposed of, and whether the footpaths are in good condition.
As part of the pre-monsoon works, various works are underway in Mumbai Metropolitan City through the municipal corporation’s Inland Waterways Department and Roads and Transport Department.

In this regard, during heavy rains, the Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani inspected the possible waterlogging areas near Hindmata, Gandhi Market and Chunabhatti Railway Station in the eastern suburbs in the city division as well as the road concreting work today (June 3, 2025). Also, after taking detailed information about the short-term and long-term measures, he gave the necessary instructions.

Bhushan Gagrani reviewed the water storage tanks, pumping stations, main water pipes and storage process at Hindmata and Gandhi Market in Dadar and Shiv (Sion). Gagrani said that more vigilance should be exercised to make the operation of Hindmata and Gandhi Market pumping stations more effective. ‘Flow meters’ should be installed at these places.

The capacity of all pumps should be uniform. Additional manpower should be appointed in times of emergency, and diesel generator sets should be made available immediately as an alternative arrangement in case of the pumping station’s breakdown. The pumping station system should be operated with sufficient capacity and on time during rains.

The pumping station operators should contact the Emergency Management Department of the Municipal Corporation and make regular estimates of rainfall. The officials should alert the system from time to time. The drains near Chunabhatti railway station should be cleaned properly. If the pumping station fails, another set should be deployed immediately as an alternative. Gagrani directed that the response time of this alternative system should be fast in case of emergency.

Bhushan Gagrani also inspected the cement concrete road works of Jain Society Marg in Shiv (Sion) and Parelcha Raja Marg in Dadar. After the review meeting at the F South Division office in Parel, Gagrani visited the Civic Amenities Centre. He also interacted with the citizens. Gagrani suggested that the assistant commissioners of the administrative divisions should visit the Civic Amenities Centre regularly and review the work.
