Deputy CM Pawar Reviews Traffic Issues On Mumbai-Goa Highway

June 12, 2025:Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, has directed the swift completion of key bypass roadworks along the Mumbai–Goa National Highway to address growing concerns over traffic congestion. Chairing a review meeting via video conferencing from Mantralaya on Wednesday, Pawar underscored the urgency of improving travel conditions for motorists, especially ahead of the monsoon season.

Emphasising the need for temporary relief until the larger bypass projects at Indapur and Mangaon are completed, Pawar announced the immediate allocation of Rs 15 crore in funding. This will cover urgent improvements across four critical stretches: Morba Road to Mumbai–Goa Highway, Sainagar Canal Bridge to Uttekhol Canal Village, Nizampur Road Canal to Bhadav Road—three within Mangaon Nagar Panchayat—and Indapur Canal Road to Wigavli Phata Road.

These strategic link roads are aimed at easing pressure on the heavily travelled national highway, which connects Mumbai to key southern coastal towns. With ongoing delays hampering the completion of bypass works, local commuters and transporters have reported frequent bottlenecks, particularly during peak hours and festival travel periods.

Pawar has also instructed the Raigad district collector and superintendent of police to deploy additional manpower and maintain close vigilance, especially during the rainy season, when traffic disruptions become more frequent due to flooding and poor road visibility.

The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to alleviating long-standing transport challenges and ensuring smoother, safer travel for all road users. Officials are expected to monitor progress on a weekly basis to avoid further delays and ensure that monsoon-related disruptions are minimised.

The Mumbai–Goa Highway serves as a crucial economic and tourist artery, and its decongestion remains a top infrastructure priority for the state administration.
