June 18, 2025: Reaffirming India’s uncompromising stance on terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful address at the G7 Outreach Summit in Canada on Tuesday. He urged global leaders to adopt a unified and uncompromising approach against nations that support, fund, or shelter terrorist organisations.
Speaking with candour, Modi stated: “For global peace and prosperity, our thought and policy must be clear — any country that supports terrorism must pay the price.” He criticised the double standards often seen in international diplomacy, noting that while some nations face swift sanctions, others with links to terrorism are openly rewarded.
His remarks follow the 22 April terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. India swiftly responded with Operation Sindoor, targeting terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Modi thanked G7 leaders for condemning the attack and renewed calls for decisive global action. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also reiterated Modi’s statement on social media.
Indirectly criticising the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Modi raised concerns over the recent approval of over 2.4 billion dollar in funding to Pakistan, shortly after the Pahalgam attack. India has questioned the wisdom of financially aiding a country linked to ongoing terrorist activity.
Beyond security, Modi used the summit to advocate for the Global South, highlighting India’s leadership in inclusive development through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
On artificial intelligence, Modi called for ethical governance, expressing concern about deepfakes and urging watermarking of AI-generated content. He emphasised that only renewable energy can sustainably power future technology.
In a message of unity, Modi shared a photo with G7 leaders and stated: “Together for global progress.” He was warmly welcomed by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, marking his first visit to Canada in a decade.
