NMMC Lists 501 Buildings As Unsafe For 2025–26, Evacuation Ordered For 51

June 19, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has officially classified 501 buildings across its jurisdiction as unsafe for occupancy for the year 2025–2026. This follows a ward-wise structural audit conducted under Section 264 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act.

Among these, 51 buildings have been identified as falling under the ‘C-1’ category—deemed extremely dangerous and unfit for habitation. These structures must be vacated and demolished without delay. A further 104 buildings are listed as ‘C-2A’, requiring evacuation prior to structural repair. Another 297 fall under the ‘C-2B’ category, needing repairs but not evacuation, while 49 buildings have been placed under ‘C-3’, needing only minor repairs.

NMMC has served formal notices to the occupants and owners of these buildings, warning that continued residential or commercial use poses severe threats to life and property. In accordance with a Maharashtra Urban Development Department directive issued on  November 5, 2015, electricity and water supplies to C-1 buildings will be disconnected.

The civic body has clearly stated that any incidents resulting in loss of life or property due to collapse will be the sole responsibility of the occupants or owners. “Residents in C-1 structures are urged to vacate immediately, while those in C-2A, C-2B, and C-3 must carry out necessary repairs without delay to mitigate monsoon risks,” a senior NMMC official said.

Notably, several C-1 buildings still occupied include Shri Ganesh CHS and Pancharatna CHS in Nerul; Jay Maharashtra CHS in Vashi; Amoli CHS in Sanpada; Onion-Potato Market in Turbhe; and Gagangiri CHS in Koparkhairane.

With the monsoon under way, NMMC has appealed to residents to avoid these dangerous structures and comply with safety directives to prevent avoidable tragedies.
