June 24, 2025: In a meaningful contribution to Mumbai’s urban ecosystem, Ajmera Realty & Infra India has developed a dense, Miyawaki-style forest at the Kalina Campus, planting 5,000 native trees. This green initiative forms part of the company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, aiming to create a self-sustaining forest within the city.
The plantation drive was inaugurated by Manoj Ajmera, Managing Director of the Ajmera Group, alongside Professor Ravindra Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University.
Ajmera Realty, with over five decades of involvement in social causes, has extended its commitment to environmental conservation through this large-scale initiative. The Ajmera Trust has previously supported numerous community-focused projects, including check dam construction, education, and environmental protection. The creation of this urban forest marks a continuation of the group’s vision to blend sustainable development with urban progress.
Speaking on the occasion, Manoj Ajmera said, “We firmly believe in fostering an ecosystem that balances urban growth with environmental sustainability. The Miyawaki method is an excellent way to enhance biodiversity within city landscapes. We are proud to have collaborated with Mumbai University on this initiative.”
He further added, “This is not merely a green space in the midst of a bustling city. It represents a long-term commitment to environmental education and awareness. We look forward to working with the University to develop student-led sustainability programmes and academic offerings centred on environmental stewardship.”
The Miyawaki technique, known for creating fast-growing, dense forests using native species, is increasingly being adopted in urban areas to combat pollution, reduce heat islands, and improve air quality. With this initiative, Ajmera Realty contributes to a greener Mumbai, setting a precedent for responsible development that benefits both nature and community.
