June 25, 2025: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved infrastructure contracts exceeding Rs 12,000 crore in its recent Executive Committee meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik. Attended by senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary Aseem Kumar Gupta, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, and MMRDA Commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee (IAS), the meeting focused on critical components of metro corridors and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL).
The approved contracts span a wide spectrum of works such as systems integration, rolling stock, traction power, automatic fare collection systems, civil construction, depot facilities, and multi-modal integration. These projects are vital to bolstering Mumbai’s transport network and ensuring readiness across key corridors.
Dr Sanjay Mukherjee highlighted the strategic intent behind these approvals, stating that each project has been carefully assessed to support the city’s integrated mobility goals. Emphasis has been placed on last-mile connectivity, commuter convenience, and the timely commissioning of infrastructure aimed at enabling seamless, multi-modal transport across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis noted the long-term impact of these projects, underlining the state’s resolve to develop infrastructure that anticipates the city’s future needs. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also chairs the MMRDA, remarked that this wave of approvals marks a decisive stride towards building world-class, inclusive transport systems for the region.
Major contracts include systems work and rolling stock for Metro Lines 4, 4A, and 6 awarded to companies like Larsen & Toubro, IRCON, and NCC Ltd, alongside enhancements to MTHL infrastructure. Additionally, crucial works in track-laying, AFC systems, signalling, and real-time infrastructure monitoring have been sanctioned, reflecting a comprehensive push to transform Mumbai’s urban mobility ecosystem.
