MMRDA Approves Rs 12,000 Cr Worth Of Metro And Transport Projects In Mumbai

June 26, 2025: In a significant move to bolster public transport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved 19 infrastructure projects totalling over Rs 12,000 crore during its recent Executive Committee meeting. The initiatives aim to accelerate metro expansion, modernise transit systems, and improve commuter experience across the city.

A Rs 4,788 crore contract has been awarded for the supply and installation of rolling stock, CBTC signalling, telecom systems, platform screen doors, and depot equipment for Metro Lines 4 and 4A, including five years of maintenance. The cost for civil works at Gownipada and Gaimukh stations (Line 4A) has been revised to Rs 557.55 crore. Additionally, Rs 188.59 crore has been sanctioned for ballastless track laying between Bhakti Park and Mulund Fire Station.

IRCON International Ltd has secured a Rs 668.15 crore contract for power supply, lifts, escalators, and E&M systems on Metro Line 6. NCC Ltd will provide rolling stock, signalling, and depot systems worth Rs 2,269.66 crore.

Rs 535.08 crore has been allocated for multimodal integration at 32 stations on Lines 4 and 4A. Aurionpro Solutions will implement an Automatic Fare Collection system valued at RS 249.97 crore on the Wadala–Gaimukh corridor. OHE and SCADA systems for Lines 9 and 7A will be undertaken by the Leena Powertech–Umesh Brothers Consortium at Rs 118.28 crore.

Additional approvals include Rs 551.41 crore for intelligent tolling on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, ballastless tracks on Line 2B, and digital infrastructure monitoring by Censys Technologies. Foot overbridge contracts were awarded to KBA Infrastructure–Shree Manglam Buildcon JV and J Kumar–PRS JV.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that these projects are central to Mumbai’s integrated transport vision. MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee affirmed the agency’s commitment to enhancing last-mile connectivity and fast-tracking implementation.
