Mumbai Metro Gets Rs 120 Billion Push For Last-Mile Link Improvements

June 3, 2025: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has sanctioned 19 key infrastructure projects worth over Rs 120 billion during its recent Executive Committee meeting. These initiatives are designed to accelerate the expansion of Metro corridors and upgrade smart transport systems across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), reinforcing efforts towards seamless urban mobility.

The approved projects are expected to stimulate economic activity, enhance connectivity, and improve the overall quality of life in the region. The investment reflects MMRDA’s long-term strategy to build an integrated and commuter-friendly transport ecosystem in Maharashtra.

Among the most significant approvals is a Rs 47.88 billion contract awarded to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for integrated systems on Metro Lines 4 and 4A. This includes rolling stock, signalling systems, depot equipment, and five years of operations and maintenance. The cost for civil works on Metro Line 4A has been revised to Rs 5.57 billion, while L&T also secured a Rs 1.88 billion contract for ballastless trackwork.

For Metro Line 6, IRCON International has been entrusted with power supply and E&M systems under a Rs 6.68 billion contract, and NCC will deliver rolling stock and signalling solutions worth Rs 22.69 billion.

Additional allocations include Rs 5.35 billion for multi-modal integration on Lines 4 and 4A, divided among four packages awarded to various joint ventures. Other key contracts include Rs 2.49 billion for automatic fare collection systems (Aurionpro Solutions), Rs 1.18 billion for OHE and power distribution on Lines 9 and 7A (Leena Powertech-Umesh Brothers), and Rs 990.99 million for trackwork on Line 2B (Paras Railtech). The ITS and toll system contract under MTHL Package-4 has also been revised to Rs 5.51 billion.

This funding boost underlines MMRDA’s commitment to advancing multimodal transport solutions and improving last-mile connectivity throughout the region.
