NMMC Initiates Action Against Illegal Structures In Nerul, Airoli, And Belapur

July 22, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has undertaken a stringent anti-encroachment drive across the zones of Nerul, Airoli, and Belapur, under directives issued by Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. The operation was overseen by Additional Commissioner (II) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner for Encroachment, Dr Kailas Gaikwad.

In Nerul, a site inspection revealed that one Ramphal Magnu Saroj had carried out unauthorised construction atop Plot No. 332B in Sector-1, Shiravane village. The encroachment, measuring approximately 2.35 by 2.25 metres, was built without official approval. A prior notice was served on April 3, 2025 under Section 53 (1A) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966. As no action was taken by the owner within the stipulated time, the civic body proceeded with enforcement. During the operation, three unauthorised shops located in the parking area were sealed and one structure fully demolished. The demolition team included Assistant Commissioner Jayant Jawdekar, encroachment officials, six labourers, two gas cutters, and security support.

In Airoli’s G Ward, illegal structures were discovered at H-16 and H-63, Sector-4. Notices under Section 54 of the MRTP Act were issued, and when the parties failed to comply, partial demolition was carried out on July 16, 2025. The exercise utilised a team of labourers equipped with gas cutters, breakers, and hammers. A penalty of Rs 50,000 was also levied on the offenders.

Similar action was taken in Belapur’s A Ward, where unauthorised work was reported at two properties in Shahbaz Gaon and Darave. Demolition was executed on July 17, with a 15-member team and support from local police.

NMMC has stated that such enforcement actions will intensify, reaffirming its commitment to preserving lawful urban planning and curbing unauthorised development.
