Nalasopara Station Gets Rs 75 Crore Makeover With New Elevated Deck, Boosting Commuter Experience

July 31, 2025: In a significant development for Mumbai’s Western Railway network, the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) has completed the construction of a 95-meter-long and 11.5-meter-wide elevated deck at Nalasopara station. Built above Platform Number One, the new structure connects the two southernmost foot overbridges (FOBs), aiming to decongest the station and streamline passenger movement. Nalasopara currently sees a daily footfall of 1.83 lakh passengers and handles around 440 suburban train services.

The elevated deck is part of a larger station upgrade plan under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) 3A, with a total budget of approximately Rs 75 crore allocated for Nalasopara alone. Future additions include a second elevated deck linking all platforms, a new home platform on the western side, four new escalators, and three lifts to enhance convenience and accessibility for daily commuters.

“This new elevated deck is a key step toward reimagining the commuter experience across Mumbai’s suburban network,” said Sunil G Udasi, Chief Public Relations Officer, MRVC. “We’re not only decongesting one of the busiest stations on the Western line but also delivering on MRVC’s commitment under MUTP 3A to provide safer, more accessible, and commuter-centric infrastructure for the city’s rail users.”

The upgrade at Nalasopara is part of a broader transformation effort across 17 suburban stations under MUTP 3A, with a total outlay of Rs 947 crore. On the Western line, other stations undergoing redevelopment include Santacruz, Kandivli, Mira Road, Bhayandar, Vasai, and the recently upgraded Khar Road. Ten more stations across the Central and Harbour lines are also being revamped.

Planned improvements across the network include wider entry and exit points, enhanced lighting, upgraded ticketing systems, modern security measures, new foot overbridges, lifts, and escalators — all aimed at creating safer and more commuter-friendly transit hubs.
