MHADA Gives Green Signal To Redevelop 17 Dilapidated PMGP Buildings In Andheri East

October 10, 2025: After years of uncertainty, the long-awaited redevelopment of 17 severely dilapidated PMGP buildings in Poornanagar, Andheri East, has finally received the green signal from the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). The decision was taken during a key review meeting between MP Ravindra Waikar and MHADA Vice President and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal, which addressed over 40 pending issues related to the Mumbai North-West Lok Sabha constituency.

As per the resolution, the redevelopment work will commence after December, with residents set to receive a lump-sum rent amount equivalent to three years during the construction period. This long-pending project aims to provide safe and modern housing facilities to hundreds of residents who have been living in precarious conditions.

The meeting also resulted in several other major decisions concerning redevelopment and rehabilitation projects under MHADA. The authority will take up intervention in the Meghwadi Sarvodaya Nagar case and develop the Khadakpada plot in Malad. It will also demolish and reconstruct the transit camp at Samarth Nagar and prepare redevelopment plans for Buildings Nos. 1 to 17 in Bimbisar Nagar. Additionally, the rehabilitation proposal for Vanrai Colony has been forwarded to the state government, with redevelopment of Buildings Nos. 4 to 21 planned in the first phase.

Meanwhile, the state cabinet has already sanctioned the redevelopment of MHADA buildings in Aram Nagar.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Mumbai Board CEO Milind Borikar, Deputy CEO Vandana Suryawanshi, Executive Engineers Rathod and Vihar Bodke, along with several former corporators.

MP Ravindra Waikar expressed optimism, stating that the redevelopment “will not only provide safer homes to residents but also transform the housing landscape of Andheri East.”
