Mumbai Metro Line 14: Magenta Line To Link Kanjurmarg And Badlapur, Transforming Commutes And Real Estate

November 01, 2025: Mumbai’s long-standing struggle with travel time between distant suburbs may soon ease with the proposed Mumbai Metro Line 14, also known as the Magenta Line. Planned to connect Kanjurmarg to Badlapur, this 39-km corridor will be India’s longest metro line, linking key residential, commercial, and industrial hubs across the eastern and central suburbs.

Currently, commuters from Badlapur to Kanjurmarg depend heavily on Mumbai’s suburban rail network. The new line aims to provide a faster alternative, reducing travel time to around one hour compared to the current 1.5–2 hours by road. Developed at an estimated cost of Rs 18,000 crore, the project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared by Milan Metro and approved by IIT Bombay. The proposal suggests executing the project under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with construction likely to commence by 2026 once final approvals are secured.

Mumbai Metro Line 14 will include 15 stations—both elevated and underground—and feature two key interchanges: with Line 4 (Wadala–Thane Corridor) and Line 5 (Jogeshwari–Vikhroli–Kanjurmarg Corridor). Operational timings are expected to align with other metro routes, from 6 AM to 11 PM.

The corridor’s proximity to eco-sensitive zones such as the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary and Parsik Hills has prompted the MMRDA to conduct a detailed environmental impact assessment.

Experts believe Metro Line 14 will significantly influence Mumbai’s real estate market by improving accessibility to peripheral areas. Locations such as Kanjurmarg, Vikhroli, Ghansoli, Airoli, Shilphata, Dombivli, and Badlapur are expected to see higher property demand, price appreciation, and rental yields within 500 metres of metro stations—mirroring trends seen along other operational metro lines.
