November 27, 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has outlined an ambitious vision to significantly improve Mumbai’s connectivity, announcing that crucial infrastructure projects across the city will be completed by 2032. He emphasised that ongoing and upcoming works are being fast-tracked to reduce congestion and provide alternative routes for smoother travel.
According to the Chief Minister, a series of high-impact projects are being prioritised to strengthen both east–west and north–south connectivity. These include extending the coastal road and sea link up to Versova, Dahisar, and Bhayander, developing new link roads from Dahisar, creating free-flow bridges, and constructing several large-scale tunnel networks. At present, he noted that nearly 60 per cent of Mumbai’s vehicular traffic depends on the Western Express Highway, making such new corridors essential to redistribute traffic load and improve overall mobility.
Among the tunnels planned, Fadnavis highlighted direct connections between the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and various parts of Mumbai, along with elevated link roads above the expressway. He said these advances would make Mumbai “completely tunnelled” while significantly increasing average travel speeds across the city.
On mass transit, the Chief Minister stated that the entire metro network is expected to be completed within the next five years. He also stressed a strong push toward electrifying transport and achieving zero-emission public mobility in the long term.
Environmental infrastructure is also being strengthened. Fadnavis noted that sewage treatment plants across Mumbai will be upgraded so that only treated water is released into the sea, with completion targeted within a year. Speaking about the Dharavi redevelopment project, he said that around 30% of the area will be maintained as green zones.
Addressing civic politics, the CM shared that 40 per cent of his party’s civic ward candidates will be under the age of 35, encouraging young citizens to engage in governance. He argued that instead of merely criticising corruption, “numbers are needed to replace problematic leaders,” and urged collaborative, constructive participation.
Fadnavis also directed officials to finish 30 major infrastructure projects within three years and instructed that progress be closely monitored through the CM Dashboard to resolve delays quickly.
