Dadar Station Upgrade Picks Up Pace, Elevated Decks to Ease Daily Rush

Work on the long-awaited upgrade of Dadar Railway Station on the Western Railway has gathered momentum, with the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) accelerating construction of elevated decks aimed at easing heavy commuter congestion. The station handles an estimated 2–3 lakh passengers daily, making it one of the city’s busiest transit hubs.

The project is being executed in two phases and will introduce large elevated decks connecting multiple foot overbridges (FOBs), along with improved passenger amenities. In Phase I, a 96 m x 32 m deck will link two north-end FOBs across Platforms 1, 2 and 3. This includes four staircases, three escalators and two elevators. Phase II involves a 100 m x 14 m deck connecting the second north FOB to an existing south-end FOB, along with additional access infrastructure and selective demolition of old structures.

Officials said the integrated deck system will streamline passenger movement and reduce bottlenecks. Despite operational challenges, foundation work, including pile caps and footings, is progressing, alongside steel fabrication. Temporary staircases have been installed to maintain commuter flow during construction.

The upgrade is expected to significantly improve safety, connectivity and peak-hour dispersal.
