Actor Sonali Kulkarni shared a distressing experience after being stuck for nearly five hours in a massive traffic jam on the Mumbai–Pune route, describing the situation as “really bad” and “scary.” She documented the ordeal through a video posted on social media while travelling towards Pune on Thursday night.
According to her account, the severe congestion was triggered after a piling rig reportedly collapsed at an under-construction flyover site in the Mankhurd area of Mumbai. The incident led to a complete standstill of vehicles on the route, leaving commuters stranded for hours.
In the video, Kulkarni expressed frustration over the lack of movement and clarity from authorities. “It’s been exactly 5 hours, 5 hours that we are stuck here. I am going to Pune. You can see the traffic behind me and ahead of me, there. We called the traffic control team. They are saying to have patience. The jam is really bad. And they are not sure when the jam will get resolved,” she said.
She further added that reversing or moving forward was not possible due to the gridlock. “We can’t cross. We are completely stuck because we can’t turn back either. Pray for us. Police, please, if you know anything. If you can come from the other side, let us know. If you can help us or give us an update. Please let us know. We can’t say that we are hungry. I know people must have gone through many more terrible scenarios than us. But this is scary. 5 hours at just one position,” she said.
The incident once again highlights recurring concerns over traffic congestion and infrastructure-related delays on the Mumbai–Pune corridor, an issue frequently raised by commuters and public figures alike.
