India’s first advanced precast concrete crash barrier system has been installed on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway Missing Link project, marking a significant step forward in highway safety standards. The system has been deployed in collaboration with DELTABLOC®, an Austria-based global leader in vehicle restraint technologies.
The Missing Link project, being executed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, is a key infrastructure initiative designed to improve connectivity, cut travel time, and enhance safety along the Mumbai–Pune Expressway—one of the state’s most vital transport corridors.
As part of the upgrade, internationally tested DELTABLOC® crash barrier systems have been introduced. These barriers comply with strict global safety norms, including the European EN 1317 standard, and are engineered to perform under high-speed and heavy-traffic conditions. Their design enables effective containment of vehicles, absorption of collision impact, and redirection during accidents, significantly reducing the likelihood of severe injuries. Similar systems are already in use across more than 45 countries, particularly on complex and high-risk road networks.
Anup Mathew, EVP and Business Head, Construction Business at Godrej Enterprises Group, said, “As India builds the infrastructure that will power its next phase of growth, safety must be built into every major project and milestone. With DELTABLOC®, we are enabling the introduction of a globally proven vehicle restraint technology in India for the first time, backed by our engineering expertise and execution capabilities. We are proud glad to work with leading government and public authorities toward supporting their endeavour to develop safer highways and stronger transport infrastructure.”
The project also underscores a growing focus on sustainable construction practices. The Missing Link is being developed using recycled construction materials, aligning with broader efforts to promote environmentally responsible infrastructure. In this domain, Godrej Enterprises Group has been advancing circular construction solutions through collaborations with domestic and international partners, as well as start-ups, to build future-ready technologies. Its recycled materials segment has recorded a 57% year-on-year growth, reflecting increasing demand for sustainable, high-performance construction solutions.
Beyond this project, the group has contributed to several major infrastructure developments, including the Mumbai Coastal Road, Versova–Bandra Sea Link, Mumbai Metro Rail, and the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor, focusing on innovation, quality, and long-term impact in India’s evolving infrastructure landscape.
