The Maharashtra government has initiated a large-scale plan to modernise its stamps and registration department, appointing RailTel Corporation of India to upgrade 517 offices across the state over five years.
The move is aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in property registration and related services by introducing advanced digital systems. Officials said the initiative is designed to make processes more streamlined and citizen-focused, reducing delays and enhancing service delivery.
As part of the overhaul, all sub-registrar and administrative offices will be connected to a centralised server system. The upgrade will include installation of modern IT infrastructure, secure digital networks, CCTV surveillance, and updated software platforms. Continuous technical support and maintenance services will also be ensured to keep operations running smoothly.
The project will be implemented under a public-private partnership model. It will involve deployment of trained technical personnel for IT support, software development, and system management. Additionally, a dedicated network operations centre and an integrated command and control centre will be established to monitor connectivity and ensure uninterrupted digital services.
The modernisation plan also covers data management improvements, including staff for data entry and document digitisation. New tools such as project management systems and inventory tracking platforms will be introduced to maintain hardware and monitor system performance efficiently.
Further, offices will be equipped with updated computer hardware, cloud-based services, and a steady supply of operational materials such as paper, toner, and other essentials.
Alongside this initiative, VFS Global Services has been appointed to set up 60 premium service centres under a public-private partnership model, offering enhanced facilities for users willing to pay for faster and more comfortable services.
