BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha has called for a detailed investigation and strict action following yet another safety incident at the Mumbai Metro Line 4 construction site in Mulund West. In a formal letter addressed to MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee, he also renewed his demand for cancelling the contract awarded to Milan Buildtech LLC, citing repeated negligence at the project site.
Raising concerns over recurring accidents, Kotecha pointed to a recent incident in which a wooden plank reportedly fell onto a moving car on Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Road. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but he said the event highlighted continuing safety failures.
Kotecha stated in the letter, “In the wake of a recent incident in which a wooden plank fell onto a moving car, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) should conduct an inquiry and take strict action against those found responsible for negligence.”
He further stressed that this was not an isolated case. Around two months earlier, a section of a parapet wall had collapsed at the same Metro Line 4 site, resulting in one fatality and injuries to three people. The MLA noted that the proximity of the latest accident—barely 10 metres from the earlier site—raises serious questions about on-ground safety compliance.
He has demanded that the findings of the earlier inquiry into the parapet wall collapse be made public, along with a fresh probe into the recent incident involving the falling wooden plank.
“In light of these repeated safety incidents, I demand an immediate inquiry into the wooden plank accident, along with a copy of the previous inquiry report on the parapet wall collapse,” Kotecha wrote.
Reiterating his stance, he urged termination of the contractor’s appointment, stating that repeated lapses cannot be ignored. He added that citizen safety must remain the top priority and called on MMRDA to act swiftly and transparently to restore public confidence and prevent further mishaps at the construction site.
