The Maharashtra government has sanctioned a comprehensive development plan valued at Rs 4,150.46 crore for Pandharpur, one of the state’s prominent pilgrimage destinations. The decision was finalised during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai.

Fadnavis has directed officials to complete the entire project within 30 months, while ensuring that infrastructure planning takes into account the town’s requirements for the next 50 years. He emphasised the need to upgrade facilities to accommodate the steadily rising number of devotees visiting Pandharpur annually.

Focus on pilgrim experience
Pandharpur draws lakhs of devotees during major religious events such as Ashadhi, Kartiki, Chaitri and Maghi yatras. The Chief Minister underlined that development efforts must prioritise cleanliness, safety and reduced congestion, while enhancing the overall spiritual experience.

Key components of the plan
The proposed development includes several large-scale projects aimed at improving both infrastructure and heritage conservation. These include:

  • Dedicated corridors for better crowd management
  • Restoration and preservation of ancient temples and monasteries
  • Upgraded facilities for pilgrims and residents
  • Beautification of river ghats
  • Construction of roads, bridges and parking infrastructure
  • Development of commercial spaces and public amenities

Financial allocation
The योजना outlines a structured allocation of funds:

  • Rs 735.80 crore for crowd management, heritage conservation and pilgrim services
  • Rs 1,387.91 crore for roads, ghats, parking and urban infrastructure
  • Rs 2,026.75 crore for land acquisition, rehabilitation and compensation

Rehabilitation and funding clarity
Fadnavis instructed authorities to ensure timely and fair compensation for affected residents, businesses and tenants. He also stressed that financial resources should be made available promptly to prevent project delays.
