The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has moved to strengthen social infrastructure in Bandra Kurla Complex by allotting land parcels for healthcare and education projects with a combined investment of over Rs 580 crore. The initiative is aimed at addressing infrastructure gaps in one of Mumbai’s key business districts.
Allotment letters were recently handed over by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the presence of senior officials, including Metropolitan Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee. The recipients included representatives from Jupiter Lifeline Hospitals and D. Y. Patil University.
Under the plan, a 10,026.44 sq m plot in the G-Text Block has been allocated for a multi-speciality hospital. With a permissible built-up area of 20,052.88 sq m, the project has been awarded at Rs 1,76,533.25 per sq m, translating to an estimated value of around Rs 354 crore. The proposed facility is expected to offer advanced medical services.
In a parallel move, a 5,117.85 sq m plot has been allotted for an educational institution, with a development potential of 10,235.70 sq m. The bid was finalised at Rs 2,19,819 per sq m, amounting to approximately Rs 225 crore. The project will house a modern academic centre with multiple programmes.
Both allotments were completed through an e-tendering process, ensuring that the highest eligible bidders were selected in line with regulatory norms and transparency guidelines.
The move reflects a broader evolution in BKC’s development strategy. Originally conceived as a financial hub to ease pressure on South Mumbai, the district has seen rapid commercial growth but has faced gaps in essential social infrastructure. Authorities said these projects aim to create a more balanced, mixed-use urban environment.
With improving connectivity through metro networks and road infrastructure, BKC is increasingly emerging as a self-sustained urban hub. The addition of healthcare and education facilities is expected to further enhance its liveability and long-term growth potential.
