Bombay High Court Declines To Halt Tender Process For Cluster Redevelopment In Bandra & Worli

Bombay High Court has refused to grant a stay on the tender process initiated for the integrated cluster redevelopment of more than 5,000 housing societies located in Mumbai’s Bandra Reclamation and Worli areas.

The decision came earlier this week from a division bench comprising Justice Makarand Karnik and Justice Shriram Modak, which observed that the matter would be taken up for final hearing and therefore declined to suspend the ongoing tender proceedings at this stage.

The redevelopment proposal is considered one of Mumbai’s major urban renewal initiatives, covering thousands of residential societies across two prime locations in the city. The cluster redevelopment model aims to undertake large-scale redevelopment through integrated planning, infrastructure upgrades, and improved urban amenities across densely built neighbourhoods.

The proposed redevelopment is expected to reshape significant portions of Bandra Reclamation and Worli, both of which are among Mumbai’s prominent residential and commercial micro-markets. Authorities have argued that the cluster approach could help address ageing infrastructure, improve civic facilities, and optimise land use in heavily populated areas.

The court’s refusal to stay the tender process allows authorities to continue with the preliminary stages of project execution while the legal proceedings remain ongoing.

The matter is expected to be heard further before the High Court in the coming weeks.
