Union Minister and North Mumbai MP Piyush Goyal on Sunday said all Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) redevelopment projects in North Mumbai would be planned to ensure that no family is displaced without housing support.
Speaking at Mumbai’s first SRA ‘Janata Darbar’ held at Atal Smruti Udyan, Goyal addressed nearly 150 complaints related to rehabilitation and housing issues under various SRA projects.
The public hearing witnessed participation from residents across North Mumbai who raised concerns regarding pending rehabilitation matters, flat allotments, rent payments, and biometric verification issues.
Addressing the gathering, Goyal said discussions had already been held with the Maharashtra Chief Minister, municipal authorities, SRA officials and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority to ensure that affected residents receive permanent homes within their existing localities.
During the hearing, the minister reviewed complaints linked to eligibility disputes, delayed rent payments and allocation of rehabilitation flats. He instructed officials to take immediate action on unresolved matters, while several pending cases were reportedly resolved during the programme itself.
Goyal also warned against developers failing to pay rent to displaced residents during redevelopment projects. He directed authorities to blacklist defaulting developers and initiate strict legal proceedings against them.
He further stated that residents should be allowed to choose suitable developer groups for redevelopment projects and assured citizens that there would be no political interference in the process.
The minister also highlighted employment and welfare initiatives in North Mumbai, including skill development programmes being conducted at Kandivali East.
