Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches New Bengaluru-Mumbai Express; Services To Begin From May 23

Indian Railways has introduced a new bi-weekly express train connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai, offering passengers a direct rail link between the country’s technology hub and financial capital in nearly 24 hours. The inaugural run of the Bengaluru-Mumbai Express was virtually flagged off on Sunday, May 17, 2026, by Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The service will operate between Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru (SMVT Bengaluru) and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT Mumbai). Managed by the South Western Railway (SWR) zone, the train is aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel inconvenience for passengers frequently travelling between Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The new express is expected to benefit travellers commuting for business, tourism, education and employment purposes. It will also strengthen connectivity between important commercial and industrial centres such as Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi and Pune, improving regional transportation links across western and southern India.

According to Dr. Manjunath Kanamadi, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of SWR, the express connection will immensely benefit commuters travelling for business, higher education, tourism, and employment opportunities between Bengaluru, North Karnataka, and the Mumbai region.

The train will cover a total distance of 1,210 kilometres in a single journey, with an overall travel duration of 24 hours and 5 minutes. The Bengaluru-Mumbai Express has been introduced as a bi-weekly service.

Regular operations from Bengaluru are scheduled to commence on May 23, 2026, while services departing from Mumbai will begin from May 24, 2026.
