The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Mumbai circle, is set to inaugurate an ‘Audio Guide Tour’ and the ‘Naneghat Pass Transformation’ project at Naneghat on May 18, marking a new digital initiative aimed at enhancing heritage tourism and historical awareness in Maharashtra.
The project has been conceptualised around the theme ‘From Ancient Trade Route to Digital Heritage Walk’ and seeks to provide visitors with easier and more accurate access to information about the historic mountain pass through digital audio-based storytelling.
Naneghat, which served as a significant trade route during the Satavahana period, is known for its ancient Brahmi script inscriptions and rock-cut carvings that hold major archaeological and historical importance. Through the new audio guide system, tourists will now be able to explore the site’s history in a digital and interactive format.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place at Naneghat at 9 am on May 18. T. Srilakshmi will attend the programme as the chief guest.
Special guests at the event will include Abhijit Dandekar and Tejas Garge.
Officials stated that the initiative has been compiled by Abhijit S. Ambekar and is intended to improve visitor engagement while supporting preservation and awareness of Maharashtra’s historical heritage.
The ASI said the digital initiative is expected to become an important milestone for tourism promotion and historical conservation in the state. Authorities have also appealed to history enthusiasts, tourists and heritage lovers to participate in the event and experience the newly introduced digital heritage walk.
Naneghat continues to remain one of Maharashtra’s most historically significant mountain passes, attracting researchers, trekkers and tourists interested in ancient trade networks and early Indian inscriptions.
