Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has initiated the process of appointing an agency to carry out an underground utility survey for the revised alignment of the Mumbai Metro Line 11 extension corridor between Bandra Terminus and Anik Depot.
According to tender documents issued by MMRCL’s planning department, the selected consultant will conduct a detailed underground infrastructure survey using Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) technology along the proposed metro alignment. The exercise forms part of the pre-construction planning activities for the Metro Line 11 extension project.
The scope of work includes identification, mapping and documentation of underground utilities and obstacles across the corridor. These include RCC and metallic pipelines, sewer and water lines, gas and petroleum pipelines, electrical cables, telecom ducts and other buried infrastructure assets.
MMRCL stated that the appointed agency will also coordinate with multiple authorities and collect reference drawings and technical information from organisations such as the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Railways and other infrastructure agencies connected to the project corridor.
As part of the assignment, the consultant will prepare survey drawings, site photographs, AutoCAD-based obstacle maps, utility cross-sections and technical reports based on field observations and engineering analysis. The GPR equipment proposed for the work must be capable of detecting underground infrastructure up to a depth of five metres while generating high-resolution imaging data.
The tender document also specifies that the consultant must submit a detailed methodology report outlining field procedures, equipment settings, formulas, processing techniques and post-survey analysis in MS Word format. Final outputs will be submitted in both digital and hardcopy formats, including colour reports and Excel-based measurement data.
MMRCL has fixed a one-month timeline for completion of the survey work from the date of appointment. Payments to the selected agency will be linked to submission of inception reports, draft findings, final reports and complete survey documentation.
Mumbai Metro Line 11 is planned to connect Wadala with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, while the proposed extension between Bandra Terminus and Anik Depot is expected to strengthen metro connectivity across central and eastern Mumbai through integration with existing and upcoming metro corridors.
