The Maharashtra government has formalised a major healthcare collaboration with Cleveland Clinic, Brookfield Asset Management and Arodhan Health City to develop the Navi Mumbai International MediCity, a large-scale integrated medical ecosystem planned near the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on X that the project is projected to attract nearly USD 1.2 billion in investment and generate employment for around 10,000 people. He described MediCity as part of the state’s broader vision to build a globally benchmarked healthcare destination that integrates patient care, medical education, research, innovation and talent under one framework. The initiative aligns with the Centre’s “Heal in India” mission.
The memorandum of understanding was signed in the presence of senior representatives from all participating organisations. Fadnavis joined the event virtually, while government officials and representatives from Brookfield and Arodhan Health City were present during the signing ceremony.
The Cleveland Clinic delegation was led by CEO Dr Tomislav Mihaljevic, along with Dr Sameer Kapadia, Dr Falcone and Lakshmi Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal and board member of the clinic. Dr Saloni Patwardhan of Arodhan Health City also participated from Cleveland.
Calling the agreement a milestone, Fadnavis said, “Today’s MoU marks the beginning of a transformative journey for healthcare in India. We are proud that Cleveland Clinic, one of the world’s most respected healthcare institutions, has chosen to partner with Maharashtra in this initiative.”
Spread across approximately 250 acres, the MediCity will function as India’s first global-scale hub combining hospitals, medical universities, research centres, biotech facilities, AI-driven healthcare systems and wellness infrastructure. Cleveland Clinic will act as the anchor institution, contributing expertise in clinical care, education and research.
Brookfield highlighted the project’s scale and long-term impact, while Arodhan Health City emphasised its goal of building an integrated global healthcare ecosystem.
The state government will support the consortium in securing approvals and facilitating implementation under applicable regulations.
