Navi Mumbai To Get 28-Km Integrated Metro Corridor Linking Key Nodes & Airport

Navi Mumbai is set for a significant public transport upgrade with plans for a new 28-km integrated metro corridor connecting Sagar Sangam, CBD Belapur, Pendhar and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. The project is expected to improve connectivity across the city and benefit nearly 12 lakh commuters.

Estimated to cost around Rs 5,575 crore, the metro expansion recently received approval from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, paving the way for its next phase of development.

The proposed network will integrate Metro Route 1A and Metro Route 2, creating a seamless transit corridor stretching from Sagar Sangam to the airport terminal. Under the plan, Metro Route 1A will connect Sagar Sangam with CBD Belapur, while Metro Route 2 will extend from Pendhar to Navi Mumbai International Airport Terminal (T-4). Together, the routes are expected to create a continuous metro system connecting major residential, commercial and transport hubs across the city.

The expansion builds on the existing Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1, developed by CIDCO. The operational corridor spans 11.10 km and comprises 11 stations, providing improved mobility for thousands of daily commuters and laying the foundation for future metro growth.

Officials expect the integrated corridor to significantly enhance accessibility to the upcoming airport while improving connectivity between various parts of Navi Mumbai. The project is also anticipated to support the city’s growing population and expanding economic activity by offering faster and more efficient travel options.

Beyond improving mobility, the metro network is expected to ease traffic congestion by encouraging a shift from private vehicles to public transport. Reduced dependence on cars and buses could help lower road traffic volumes while promoting a more sustainable urban transportation system.

The proposed corridor is being viewed as a major milestone in Navi Mumbai’s infrastructure development journey. Once completed, it is expected to strengthen the city’s public transport framework, improve last-mile connectivity and provide a seamless travel experience across some of the region’s most important destinations, including the upcoming international airport.
