KDMC Floats Tender For Mothagaon-Thakurli Railway Overbridge, Sets 24-Month Completion Timeline

The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has initiated the tendering process for the proposed Mothagaon–Thakurli railway overbridge (ROB) on the Diva–Vasai rail corridor, marking a key step forward for a long-awaited infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the region.

The overbridge, which has remained pending despite receiving the required approvals, is expected to improve connectivity and reduce delays caused by frequent closures at the busy railway crossing. The project was approved through the efforts of Kalyan MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde and is considered an important addition to the area’s transport network.

According to civic officials, the tender has now been officially issued. KDMC City Engineer Anita Pardeshi said the estimated expenditure related to the tender process is Rs 35.44 lakh. The contractor selected for the work will be required to complete construction within 24 months from the commencement of the project.

The tender process gained momentum after Shiv Sena MLA Rajesh More recently met KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goel and raised concerns over the delay in implementing the project. During the meeting, More reportedly urged the civic administration to expedite the process, citing increasing traffic congestion and commuter hardships in the area.

Following the discussions, KDMC accelerated the tendering exercise. A pre-allotment meeting has been scheduled for June 23 at the City Engineer’s office, after which the final award of the contract and related procedures are expected to be completed.

Speaking on the project, Rajesh More said traffic pressure in the Mothagaon–Thakurli area has increased substantially since the opening of the Mankoli Bridge. The surge in vehicle movement has placed additional strain on existing road infrastructure, making the railway overbridge a necessity for smoother traffic management.

Commuters currently face long waiting times at the level crossing, particularly during peak hours. Once completed, the overbridge is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce travel delays and strengthen connectivity between residential and commercial areas.

With the tender now underway, civic authorities have set a target of completing the project within the next two years, providing a long-term solution to one of the region’s key traffic bottlenecks.
