Maharashtra Reshuffles Senior Bureaucrats; Vijay Singhal Named OSD For Dharavi Redevelopment

The Maharashtra government has announced a major administrative reshuffle, appointing senior IAS officer Vijay Singhal as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, one of the country’s largest urban regeneration programmes.

Singhal, who was serving as Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO, will now oversee responsibilities related to the ambitious Dharavi redevelopment initiative. The appointment comes as the state intensifies efforts to advance large-scale infrastructure and urban transformation projects.

Alongside Singhal’s posting, the government announced several transfers and appointments across key departments and agencies.

Prajakta Verma has been appointed Additional Municipal Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Meanwhile, P Velrasu, who previously headed the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation as Chief Executive Officer, has been transferred to the Revenue and Forest Department as Secretary (Forest).

In another significant move, Dr Ashwini Joshi has been named Additional Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. At the same time, Deependra Singh Kushwah will take charge as Chief Executive Officer of MIDC.

The government has also appointed Ashwin Mudgal as the new Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO, succeeding Singhal.

Further changes include the appointment of Dr Kadambari Balkawade as Development Commissioner (Industries), while Sanjay Katkar has been posted as Commissioner of Family Welfare and Director of the National Health Mission.

The reshuffle comes at a crucial time for the state administration, with Maharashtra pursuing several large infrastructure, industrial and urban redevelopment projects, including the high-profile Dharavi redevelopment programme, which is expected to play a significant role in Mumbai’s future urban landscape.
