Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis conducted a comprehensive review of several major infrastructure projects in Palghar district, assessing the progress of developments collectively valued at around Rs 1.36 lakh crore.
During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected the proposed Vadhavan Port, the planned Vadhavan International Airport, the Naringi Creek Bridge and the Uttan-Virar Sea Bridge. He also reviewed ongoing work with senior officials and directed them to adhere to project timelines while maintaining high construction standards.
At the Vadhavan Port site near Chinchani, Fadnavis examined the status of critical supporting infrastructure, including internal road networks, rail connectivity, power and water supply, forest clearances, land acquisition, skill development initiatives and compensation for affected fishermen.
The greenfield port, estimated to cost Rs 76,220 crore, will be developed across 1,448 hectares and is expected to be completed within 60 months. Once operational, it is designed to handle next-generation cargo vessels and is set to become one of India’s largest deep-water ports.
The Chief Minister also reviewed plans for the proposed Vadhavan International Airport, which is strategically located near the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the Uttan-Virar Sea Bridge, the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway. The airport is expected to significantly strengthen cargo movement from the Vadhavan and Murbe ports while enhancing regional connectivity.
Another major project inspected was the Rs 850 crore Naringi Creek Bridge. The 4.1-km bridge is expected to improve connectivity between Vasai-Virar, Saphale, Palghar and Boisar by reducing the travel distance by nearly 40 kilometres and cutting journey time by approximately 45 minutes.
Fadnavis also assessed progress on the proposed Rs 58,754.51 crore Uttan-Virar Sea Bridge, a six-lane coastal corridor featuring four-lane approach roads and dedicated emergency lanes. Once completed, the project is expected to substantially improve connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region while supporting future economic growth in northern Maharashtra.
