The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has started repairing potholes and uneven stretches of roads beneath the metro corridor in Mira-Bhayandar, following complaints of deteriorating road conditions and increasing risks for commuters.
The repair work has been initiated on major roads affected by ongoing metro construction activities. Along with pothole filling, efforts are also underway to level uneven road surfaces at several locations.
Although metro services between Dahisar and Kashigaon in Mira-Bhayandar are operational, construction work for stations and the metro route between Kashigaon and Subhash Chandra Bose Maidan is still in progress. During the construction phase, several potholes developed on important roads, leading to traffic disruptions and inconvenience for motorists.
As per the metro project agreement, the contractor responsible for the construction work is also required to carry out regular maintenance and repairs of roads affected by the project. However, delays in addressing road damage had resulted in deterioration of several stretches.
Following growing concerns, a joint meeting was conducted between the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, MMRDA and the police administration. After the discussion, repair work was assigned to the concerned contractor, and pothole filling has now commenced.
Authorities said dangerous sections of roads are being levelled on priority, while repairs across the entire metro corridor will be completed in phases.
Mira-Bhayandar Mayor Dimple Mehta had highlighted that 21 accidents had taken place on these roads over the last three months, resulting in seven fatalities. Following demands for accountability from administrative authorities, repair work has now been expedited, providing some relief to commuters.
Meanwhile, MMRDA has also raised concerns over road unevenness near Shaheed Bhagat Singh Garden Metro Station on Mira Road. In an official letter dated July 10, 2026, addressed to the city engineers of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, MMRDA pointed out that a road section dug up by the civic body for a water supply pipeline was later restored with mastic asphalt.
However, the authority noted that the height difference between the concrete and asphalt portions after restoration had created a hazardous condition, particularly for two-wheeler riders. MMRDA has urged corrective measures to address the issue.
