BMC To Pilot New Manhole Rail Guard To Improve Worker & Public Safety

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to launch a pilot project to test a new Manhole Rail Guard, aimed at enhancing safety during manhole maintenance operations across Mumbai.

The safety device is designed to protect both civic workers carrying out maintenance work and members of the public by creating a secure barrier around open manholes during repair and cleaning activities.

On Monday, Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar inspected the prototype of the Manhole Rail Guard at the BMC headquarters. The inspection marked the beginning of the pilot initiative, which will assess the effectiveness of the new safety mechanism before it is introduced on a wider scale.

The civic body expects the guard to reduce the risk of accidents around open manholes while also providing a safer working environment for maintenance personnel engaged in underground infrastructure operations.
