Mumbai’s long-awaited Dindoshi–Film City flyover is expected to open to traffic by September 2026, providing a major boost to road connectivity and helping reduce congestion along the Western Express Highway (WEH) in the city’s western suburbs.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the 1.2-kilometre elevated corridor has entered the final stage of construction, with finishing works currently in progress. Once operational, the flyover will establish a direct link between the Western Express Highway near Dindoshi and Film City Road, bypassing one of the busiest traffic junctions in the area.
Developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 100 crore, the project is expected to improve traffic movement for commuters travelling towards Goregaon East, Film City, Aarey Colony and neighbouring residential and commercial areas. It is also expected to reduce traffic congestion at the Dindoshi junction, where motorists frequently experience long delays during peak hours.
The project involved complex engineering due to limited space availability and the need to maintain uninterrupted traffic flow on one of Mumbai’s busiest arterial roads throughout the construction period.
Civic officials said the remaining work includes road surfacing, installation of safety barriers, street lighting, traffic signage and other finishing touches before the flyover can be opened to the public.
Apart from easing daily traffic, the flyover is expected to improve access to Film City, a major employment and entertainment hub, while offering residents of Goregaon, Malad and surrounding localities a faster route with fewer signal interruptions.
The project is part of Mumbai’s broader infrastructure strategy to strengthen east-west connectivity and support growing transportation demand. It complements several ongoing Metro projects and road improvement initiatives aimed at improving mobility across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Improved connectivity is also expected to enhance the appeal of nearby residential and commercial markets in Dindoshi, Goregaon East and adjoining areas by offering quicker access to the Western Express Highway.
Once operational, the Dindoshi–Film City flyover is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve traffic flow and provide long-awaited relief to thousands of daily commuters using this busy corridor.
