The Maharashtra Urban Development Department has accorded in-principle approval for a ₹26-crore multi-purpose shooting complex in Thane, paving the way for a dedicated training facility for competitive shooting. The project will be developed on a reserved plot near Hiranandani Estate in Waghbil under the Ovla-Majiwada constituency.
The approval was announced by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, who said the initiative reflects the state’s focus on expanding sports infrastructure and creating quality training facilities for young athletes. The proposal has been cleared by the department headed by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Planned across a 2,020.48 sq. m. site with a built-up area of 4,522.05 sq. m., the multi-storey complex will include administrative and training spaces, an armoury distribution office, a cafeteria and basement parking for 30 cars and 50 two-wheelers.
The facility will house an 11-lane 10-metre shooting range with a 65-seat gallery on the first floor, a 10-lane 25-metre range with a 55-seat gallery on the second floor, and an eight-lane 50-metre range with seating for 40 spectators on the third floor. Additional amenities include a player lounge, conference hall, control room and equipment storage.
Once operational, the complex is expected to provide advanced training infrastructure for shooters from Thane and neighbouring regions, supporting athlete development and preparing competitors for state, national and international events.
