The proposed cable-stayed bridge connecting Andheri West and Goregaon West has seen its project cost rise to Rs 709.16 crore after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) approved additional funds for shifting Tata Power’s 110-kV transmission infrastructure.
The BMC has sanctioned Rs 24.58 crore for relocating the transmission line and towers that interfere with the bridge alignment. The earlier provision for the work was Rs 10 crore. Tata Power will undertake the specialised relocation work, while the revised proposal will be placed before the BMC Standing Committee for approval.
The bridge will connect Millat Nagar-Lokhandwala Complex in Andheri West with Bhagat Singh Nagar in Goregaon West. Planned across Goregaon Creek, the project is expected to create an alternative north-south corridor and reduce traffic pressure on S.V. Road, Link Road and Lokhandwala Circle.
Once operational, the bridge is expected to improve movement between Andheri, Oshiwara, Lokhandwala and Goregaon by providing a more direct and smoother connection. It is also planned to eventually link with the northern extension of the Mumbai Coastal Road, further improving connectivity across western Mumbai.
The project was awarded on December 1, 2022, but construction faced delays because the required land in creek and mangrove areas was not immediately available. During this period, the BMC completed several preliminary activities, including environmental approvals, surveys, geotechnical investigations, structural designs and preparations for pile foundations.
After land on the southern side was handed over, physical work began on December 12, 2025. Site levelling, alignment demarcation, piling and construction of a temporary access bridge are currently in progress.
However, the bridge alignment was subsequently found to conflict with Tata Power’s existing 110-kV transmission infrastructure. Following joint inspections, the BMC identified an alternative location and shared its coordinates with Tata Power on November 20, 2025. The power utility submitted its relocation proposal on December 31.
Following examination, the BMC recommended further action on January 27, 2026. With the relocation cost revised to Rs 24.58 crore, the overall project estimate has increased from Rs 694.50 crore to Rs 709.16 crore, including taxes.
