The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has commenced work on a new high-rise residential project for its officers in Worli, Mumbai, with the foundation stone laid for a G+29 tower at the Coast Guard Officers Residential Area (CORA).
Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), performed the foundation stone ceremony for the project. The proposed tower will replace residential structures that were demolished earlier and is estimated to involve an investment of around Rs 200–300 crore.
The residential complex will be developed on a 2,670.93 sq m plot and will comprise 40 flats across Type IV, V and VI categories. The housing will provide accommodation for Coast Guard officers, including married quarters for personnel and their families posted in Mumbai.
In addition to residential units, the project will feature an integrated Officers’ Mess designed to provide several facilities under one roof. These will include a Wardroom, Dining Hall, Gymnasium and Multipurpose Hall.
The development will also have dedicated multi-level parking with capacity for 91 vehicles, adding supporting infrastructure to the residential complex. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has been entrusted with executing the project.
The new tower is expected to address the accommodation needs of Coast Guard officers stationed in Mumbai, where residential space remains a key requirement for personnel and their families.
The project will replace the earlier 10-storey residential quarters located on the same site. However, its implementation has taken several years due to administrative and regulatory hurdles.
The project was initially sanctioned in February 2020, but subsequent approvals and other procedural issues delayed its progress. Following the completion of the required statutory clearances and a fresh tendering process, the project received its Commencement Certificate on August 3, allowing construction activities to move forward.
The high-rise development is expected to provide modern residential facilities while strengthening the housing infrastructure available to Indian Coast Guard personnel in Mumbai.
