The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), along with the police, has launched a joint crackdown on encroachments and unauthorised structures in Ulwe and Koparkhairane nodes, targeting illegal occupation of public spaces and constructions carried out without permission.
As part of the drive, encroachments occupying roads and footpaths across five sectors of Ulwe were removed. The action followed a special campaign launched against unauthorised weekly markets in Sectors 2, 5, 19, 20 and 21 from Monday, August 24.
During the operation, unauthorised vendors operating on roads and footpaths were cleared. Handcarts, construction materials and other items obstructing traffic and pedestrian movement were also removed. CIDCO officials and employees, security personnel, Ulwe police officers, workers and tempos were deployed for the drive.
The action was carried out on the orders of CIDCO Chief Vigilance Officer Suresh Mengade. It was conducted under the guidance of Vishal Dhage, Chief Controller of CIDCO’s Unauthorized Construction Control Department, and led by Controller Amit Rajput.
CIDCO and the police subsequently carried out demolition action in Koparkhairane. On August 25, an unauthorised RCC ground-floor structure measuring approximately 90 sq m was demolished in Sector 12D of Koparkhairane Node and Survey No. 20 of Mouje Bonkode.
The structure belonged to Shrikant Manohar Madhavi and developer Aadesh Patil, according to CIDCO. Six slabs forming part of the unauthorised construction were brought down using breakers and gas cutters.
CIDCO said the demolition operation involved eight breakers, 10 workers, a supervisor and a photographer. Security guards, Maharashtra Security Force personnel, the CIDCO police team and employees from the Koparkhairane police station also participated.
Officials said the enforcement action was aimed at ensuring that roads, footpaths and other public spaces remain accessible to citizens and free from unauthorised occupation.
CIDCO and the police have appealed to residents, traders and property owners not to encroach upon public spaces or undertake construction without the required permissions. They also urged citizens to cooperate with the administration during enforcement drives.
The latest operations form part of CIDCO’s continuing efforts to control unauthorised construction and prevent public spaces from being occupied or obstructed by illegal activities and structures.
