The MHADA Board is preparing to conduct a housing lottery for around 1,000 homes across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), with prices expected to range between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 42 lakh.
According to a Loksatta-Mumbai report, the board has begun work on the advertisement for the scheme, which is expected to be released within a month. The lottery itself is planned for November.
The proposed inventory will comprise approximately 550 homes under the 20% inclusive housing scheme and another 450 units from the Konkan Board’s own housing projects.
Konkan Board chief officer Dr Vishal Rathod said the marketing department had begun preparing the advertisement. He also confirmed that both categories of homes would be offered together, taking the total inventory to around 1,000 units.
Final Lottery Under 20% Housing Scheme
The 20% inclusive housing provision requires private developers to make a portion of housing available at more affordable rates. The upcoming Konkan Board lottery is expected to be the last one involving homes under this scheme in the MMR.
The change follows the state government’s decision to withdraw the scheme from MHADA and place its implementation with municipal corporations. Consequently, MHADA’s regional boards can now conduct lotteries only for units that became available before August 12.
The Konkan Board had received around 550 such homes before the cut-off date and plans to include them in the forthcoming lottery.
Earlier 8,000-Home Plan Scaled Down
The board had previously proposed a much larger lottery comprising nearly 8,000 homes, including around 5,500 units expected through the 20% scheme. However, the proposed inventory was subsequently reduced after responsibility for implementing the scheme shifted from MHADA to municipal corporations.
The latest announcement comes after the Mumbai Board’s lottery for 2,640 homes. Applicants awaiting the Konkan Board’s housing scheme will now have to wait for the official advertisement for complete information regarding eligibility, locations, category-wise inventory and application procedures.
Affordable Housing Option in the MMR
With prices expected to fall between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 42 lakh, the proposed homes could offer a lower-cost housing option to applicants seeking accommodation within the wider Mumbai region.
However, the final number of homes, project-wise distribution and detailed conditions will only be confirmed once the advertisement is officially released.
The Konkan Board’s immediate priority is to complete the promotional material and publish the advertisement within the expected one-month timeframe. The combined lottery for approximately 1,000 homes is scheduled for November, potentially giving thousands of applicants another opportunity to seek affordable housing across the MMR.
