A new financial framework has been approved for occupants affected by the redevelopment of Mumbai’s historic Kamathipura area, with MHADA finalising rental support and shifting assistance ahead of the relocation process.
Residential occupants will receive Rs 25,000 per month as transit rent, with two years’ rent to be paid in advance after vacating their premises and the third year covered through a separate cheque. A one-time shifting assistance of Rs 25,000 has also been approved.
For commercial occupants, the monthly support will be Rs 25,000 for premises up to 200 sq ft, Rs 30,000 for 200 to 400 sq ft and Rs 35,000 for units above 400 sq ft. Landowners will receive Rs 25,000 per plot per month during the redevelopment period.
The 34-acre project covers 475 cessed and 259 non-cessed buildings and involves 8,001 occupants, including 6,625 residential and 1,376 commercial occupants. Around 800 landowners are also covered under the redevelopment plan.
Eligible occupants are proposed to receive rehabilitation homes of around 500 sq ft, while approximately 4,500 additional residential units are planned as part of the project.The redevelopment plan also covers around 800 landowners
The approval comes ahead of the relocation process, with further steps including agreement formalities, consent collection and eligibility verification before construction can begin.
