Residents across Mumbai continue to flag problems ranging from uncollected garbage and illegal encroachments to blocked footpaths and traffic-related issues, highlighting persistent challenges in civic management.
At Nishtha Bhavan in New Marine Lines, garbage reportedly remained uncleared despite a complaint being submitted through the BMC’s WhatsApp grievance service.
The resident received an acknowledgment stating, “We have successfully registered your grievance. You can track it using the complaint number AX_202600113605” but said no further action followed.
In Powai Plaza, Hiranandani Gardens, resident Pradeep Gupta said unauthorised encroachments have continued despite repeated complaints over the past six months. He said representations, including photographic evidence, were submitted to authorities such as MMRDA, but visible enforcement remained limited.
Another resident, Yuhan Shaikh, highlighted difficulties for pedestrians near the MHADA buildings behind Al Barakat School in VB Nagar, Kurla, where parked vehicles and accumulated garbage have reduced usable footpath space.
Concerns were also raised over unauthorised posters, banners, hoardings and bamboo structures along Pandit CR Vyas Marg and the Swastik Park residential stretch in Chembur. Residents said some structures have been installed around electricity poles and other public infrastructure, while large advertisements near residential buildings allegedly obstruct entrances, visibility, ventilation and natural light.
Loose posters and supporting materials were also described as potential hazards for pedestrians, motorists and nearby property.
Residents further alleged that public footpaths and roadside areas were increasingly being occupied for private use and sought preventive enforcement rather than repeated forwarding of complaints between departments.
Authorities Respond to Earlier Complaints
Some complaints raised by residents in the previous round of civic grievances have received responses.
On potholes, authorities said the state government and BMC had planned concreting works for smaller and internal roads, with construction paused during the monsoon and expected to resume afterwards.
Regarding persistent traffic jams, the RTO said additional staff would be deployed to monitor the affected locations and that road-related concerns had been taken up with the BMC.
On discontinued bus services, BEST officials said, “The bus route had been discontinued for road concreting work. The services will be soon restored following the necessary approvals by the traffic police, the BMC and all the other relevant authorities.”
Western Railway officials also said encroachments and garbage along a railway-adjacent site had been cleared following a court order. The area is now earmarked for railway development, including passenger circulation facilities and work related to the sixth railway line between Khar and Mumbai Central.
