The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the allotment of developed plots on an ownership basis to 198 farmers affected by land acquisition for the integrated car shed depot at Mogharpada in Thane district.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday. Among the 198 beneficiaries, 167 are project-affected farmers, while the remaining 31 are farmers who had occupied portions of the acquired land.
The beneficiaries will receive plots under the 22.5% and 12.5% developed-plot schemes, which provide eligible landholders with developed land in lieu of land acquired for major public infrastructure projects.
Ownership Rights Under Class-I Tenure
The plots will be allotted with Class-I tenure, giving beneficiaries ownership rights over the developed properties. The Cabinet’s decision clears the way for implementation of the scheme specifically for eligible beneficiaries from Survey No. 30 at Mogharpada.
The integrated depot is being developed to support the operation and maintenance of several Metro corridors, including Metro Lines 4, 4A, 10 and 11. The Metro 4 corridor currently connects Wadala with Kasarvadavali and has subsequently been extended towards Gaimukh.
The project has been classified as an urgent public project and an important urban transport initiative for the region.
211.786-Hectare Survey Area
Land required for the integrated depot was acquired by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) from Survey No. 30 at Mogharpada.
The survey area covers approximately 211.786 hectares, of which around 174.01 hectares has been made available to the MMRDA for the Metro-related project.
The state government had previously approved a policy allowing developed plots to be provided to project-affected landholders whose properties were acquired for infrastructure projects. The 22.5% and 12.5% provisions form part of this rehabilitation framework.
Rehabilitation for Affected Landholders
Tuesday’s Cabinet decision formalises the implementation of the developed-plot scheme for the 198 eligible beneficiaries from Survey No. 30.
The allotment is intended to form part of the rehabilitation and resettlement measures for landholders affected by the acquisition of land for the integrated Metro depot.
With the Cabinet approval in place, the beneficiaries are expected to receive developed plots with ownership rights, while the Mogharpada depot project continues to progress as a common facility for multiple Metro corridors in the Thane region.
