Actors Aditya Seal and Anushka Ranjan’s first home together in Mumbai combines the elegance of an English country house with colourful, personalised details. Designed by Disha Bhavsar and Shivani Ajmera of Quirk Studio, the duplex reflects the couple’s shared taste while adding plenty of quirky elements throughout the residence.
The home makes an immediate impression at the entrance, where a playful LED baby seal replaces a conventional nameplate. The unusual feature references the couple’s shared surname and has become one of the home’s most recognisable details.
As Anushka Ranjan shared in an Architectural Digest feature, “It’s fun to watch people guess. Those who get it, get it. And it makes for a great conversation-starter.”
A peach-coloured entrance door sets the visual tone for the interiors and draws from Ranjan’s fondness for English country-style homes. Beyond the doorway, pastel shades, patterned wallpapers, wooden flooring and carefully selected décor create a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
The couple purchased the Mumbai apartment in November 2020, only a few months before their wedding. With a tight schedule for completing their first shared home, they turned to Quirk Studio after discovering the designers through social media. The studio’s ability to execute the project within the limited timeframe helped bring the couple’s vision together quickly.
Rather than following a highly formal luxury aesthetic, the duplex focuses on character and individuality. Herringbone flooring and wallpapers lend the rooms a classic foundation, while neon signs and customised artwork inject a more contemporary and playful quality.
Personal touches are central to the design. Ranjan’s own artwork adds another layer of individuality, while quirky lighting elements and decorative details make the spaces feel distinctly connected to the couple.
The result is a Mumbai home that balances traditional English-inspired influences with youthful colour and humour. From its unexpected entrance feature to its pastel interiors and personalised artwork, the duplex reflects a design approach centred on personality rather than convention.
